Multimodal transportation, which is also called combined transportation, is a combination of two or more different transportation methods. The main feature of this transportation is that it is done through a shipping company and under a bill of lading contract, despite the use of different cargo transfer methods. This means that the shipping company is fully responsible for the entire process of moving the cargo, even if each step is performed by subcontractors.
